miserere.org is a non-profit-making private research project established to further awareness, appreciation and study of Allegri’s Miserere, related topics, and choral music in general. Collection of Personal Data
Personal data is information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual. We may obtain personal data in the following circumstances:
- When someone proactively contacts us, either through our contact form on this website, or directly via email. Examples of data stored as a result of contacting us may include telephone numbers, email addresses, or other relevant information supplied.
- Where personal data has been supplied as part of information shared with the project. This may be the case if you have supplied information that would help us enhance any of the discography entries.
- Where personal data is readily available in the public domain and retaining the information is appropriate to the goals of this project. For example, if you represent a choir and publish your email address on the choir’s website for people to contact you, we may retain that information in order to contact you about a recording undertaken by the choir.
Use of Personal Data
The nature of this project means that the use of personal data is naturally limited. We do not offer the ability to create accounts or collect personal data online except for the Name and Email address fields in our contact form, or if you supply any additional personal information in the body of any messages you send us via the contact form.
- We will only use personal data if we have obtained consent to use it, and only for the purposes that consent was given, and only if it is appropriate and relevant to the objectives of the project.
- We will never share any personal data you have supplied to us without your explicit consent to do so for a specific reason. For example if you have shared your email address with us, we will not pass it on to anyone else without asking you first.
- If you have published your own personal data online (in the public domain), we may store, use or refer to that information without seeking consent. For example, where you have published your email address on a website in order for others to contact you, we may publish a link to that website.
Storage of Personal Data
We will store personal data as long as it is required to support the goals of the project. Any personal data we retain is stored securely and protected from loss, misuse or unauthorised access on systems that are professionally managed and updated in line with IT security best practices.
Use of Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that is downloaded onto a device (computer, tablet, smartphone etc) when the user accesses a website through a web browser. It allows the website to recognise that user’s device and store some information about the user’s preferences or past actions. The following types of cookie are relevant here:
- 1st party session cookies that support the operation of certain features may be used by both miserere.org and media.miserere.org. Session cookies are not stored in the browser after your session has finished (for example when you close the browser after using the site).
- A single first party cookie is used to store the action of clicking “OK” to accept the “cookie banner” that is presented the first time you access miserere.org. If you clear the cookie from your browser, you will be asked to confirmed acceptance the next time you visit miserere.org.
- 3rd party cookies are used wherever YouTube or Google Maps content is embedded on pages within miserere.org. These are stored on your device. At your own discretion you may choose to block certain cookies in your web browser, however you might find that these particular features no longer work if you do. Most browsers that offer an “Incognito” mode such as Google Chrome will block third party cookies by default in this mode.
Whilst privacy best practice is to alert you to the use of cookies, we have chosen not to implement complex mechanisms to disable cookies on our sites as the use of cookies is minimal. If we did not embed YouTube or Google Maps content on our pages, we would simply provide you a link to the content which would then lead to the same cookies being stored on your device anyway. Overall, we felt that the ability to consume relevant content within the site was key, so long as you are informed about the use of cookies.
If our use of cookies changes where a more complex mechanism is required, we will consider the best options and implement something appropriate to offer more flexibility.
Analytics Data
We use Plausible Analytics to track overall trends in the usage of miserere.org in order to understand how the site is being used and how to potentially improve it. Plausible Analytics collects only aggregated information, which does not allow us to identify any visitor. We chose Plausible Analytics because it has a very low impact on the operation of the site and it is a privacy focussed tool.
